A WELCOME FROM OUR DIOCESAN

West Virginia & East Tennessee Council
Episcopal District 23, PAW, Inc.

Dear Delegate,
Welcome to the 2026 Samuel J. Grimes Leaders Empowerment Conference. It was the vision of Bishop Grimes to equip church leaders to succeed in promoting the mission of Jesus’ gospel. This conference began as a forum for clergy to gain practical knowledge, strategies, and insight that could be used at local levels to help strengthen the individual congregations, thereby building the body—The Church.
At the request of some of our non-clergy leaders we agreed to open the conference to all church leaders. It’s fact that from the groundskeepers to the preachers and all levels of service in between, all of us are ministers. And with that emphasis, we have continued to provide high quality programming to those who attend. Since 2011, our conference coordinator, Suffragan Bishop Timothy A. Schofield, has enlisted some of the more highly qualified presenters in Christian circles for this gathering.
However, this year the format has shifted from seminar presentation to that of facilitation. We’re looking toward more group interaction. We’re persuaded that everything that we need to accomplish the Lord’s work on earth exists within us. So, we aim to collectively develop methods and strategies that will enhance ministry to a cross-generational population.
As always, it’s our desire that you leave this conference excited to get back home and get busy making the ministry more effective in your area of operation.
On behalf of conference director, Suffragan Bishop Kelvin Cash, and the many team members who cooperate to make this event effective, welcome to The Grimes.
Sincerely,
Samuel R. Moore
